preparation
After isolation (best with a rubber dam) prepare the
cavity with minimal tooth reduction. <o:p></o:p>
Margins should have a slight (0.5-1.0 mm) bevel placed
in the enamel to increase the surface area for greater bond strength.<o:p></o:p>

Cavity floor of deep excavations should be covered
with a thin layer of calciumhydroxide material (e.g. Harvard CalciumHydroxide).<o:p></o:p>

3. Application of Harvard Self-Bond<o:p></o:p>
Apply Harvard Self-Bond with a brush onto the slightly moist enamel and dentin surfaces for 30 seconds with agitation. <o:p></o:p>

The material should build a homogeneous layer. Air
thin gently for 10 seconds to remove the volatile components and to disperse
the adhesive. Then light cure with a suitable dental light unit for 20 seconds
before placement of a composite.<o:p></o:p>

Apply the restorative material according to the
instructions of the manufacturer. <o:p></o:p>
Best results are obtained with application of a thin
layer of a light cure flowable composite (e.g. Harvard RestoreFlow) followed by

Application:
Make normal isolation, clean the affected tooth and apply the gel to the desired area. Wait for 20 seconds, and then rinse with sufficient amount of water-air jet for at
least 15 seconds and finally dry with oil-free air jet for 15 seconds. White spots will be apparent in the enamel indicating good etch. If not repeat the
procedures.
It is known that deciduous teeth, hypermineralized teeth as in old age and teeth with higher fluoride content require longer application time.
Side effects:
Side effects are extremely rare including hypersensitivity.
Storage / shelf life:
Always close the syringe immediately after use. It is recommended to withdraw the plunger shortly after use and clean the nozzle of the syringe needle.

In a study comparing etchants, liquid phosphoric acid (37%) showed an average of 5.0μm at 20 seconds, and a competing “polymer-thickened” etchant a 4.8μm depth.2 Acids with this greater depth of etch go beyond the optimum level and increase the potential for incomplete resin impregnation.
